Letters to the Churches of Carbon County and Beyond

Has anybody seen June? It seems to pass me by! I don't know how this happened, but this month has gone by quickly. I hope everybody is well as the summer has finally arrived. It seems a bit strange with all the cooler weather and still hearing reports about a snow pack run off creating challenges throughout Carbon County. Wyoming Wilderness Camp is geared up and camps will be starting soon. There is still room for these camps and so check out this link http://camp.diowy.org/ for more information. I hope this letter finds you well.

St. Paul's (Dixon): I started this month thinking I will only be preaching and presiding once this month and it turned out I had a free Sunday (yesterday) to catch up. St. Paul's has been faithful in hosting their Ministry Support Team meetings on the first of the month and yesterday we concluded our service and had a wonderful lunch at the Senior Center. St. Paul's is also scheduling a family fun night this Saturday at the Community Center in Baggs. Food, fellowship and Fun will be all offered starting at 5:30 pm. Last Saturday the Little Snake River Valley said good-bye to Peter “Lee” Jon as he passed away on June 9 2011 in his home. The service was held at the high school due to the large turn out of people. St. Paul members were up for the task and it was a holy service. They have scheduled a Biblical DiSC Training for the end of July.

St. James (Encampment): I am sure everybody at St. James has fully recovered from the Bishop Visit in May. St. James is also working on building new parish hall that will include restrooms and handicap accessibility for the church. The Rev. Jess Smith and I traded Sunday's for the month of June and so I will be with them next week. I am looking forward to catching up with everybody in Encampment.

St. Thomas (Rawlins): We have established a comfortable rhythm of working together. I have met with the vestry this month and up-dated them on various different activities. St. Thomas is working on building a “lift” and handicap bathroom for the church. The foundation has been laid and now it will be focusing on “punching a hole in the wall” and framing out the remainder of the addition. I have also met with a couple of members of the church as we write a Ministry Role Description for a priest at St. Thomas. It is my hope that this work be completed in time to share with the congregation in July.

St. Luke (Medicine Bow): I have received reports that St. Luke is doing well. One of the main members of the congregation had a pacemaker battery replaced and she is feeling like she is back in her game. Arlen is working on his preaching license and is signed up for DiSC and Discipleship this fall to work on his preaching presentation and content. I continue to work with him and his discernment group in Laramie.

The big news of the area is that St. Barnabas has decided to partner with the Bishop's Office and will be taking a journey into Shared Ministry. This is exciting news has I work with this congregation on their formation. Talking about recent activities and I am getting the impression that the Diocesan Vision that will be presented fully at the Diocesan Convention in October is comprehensive both in scope and impact for the Diocese. With that in mind I am moving to a place of rest and play to prepare for the next chapter for the Diocese of Wyoming. I invite the churches to do the same. Our summers are so short and it is important to re-create when we can.

What is coming up this week? I will be heading to St. Paul's for their bi-monthly bible study. Tuesday I will be attending the Gospel Study group at St. Thomas starting at 9 am and then heading to Laramie to meet with Arlen preaching discernment group. Wednesday is office hours at Kraft Hall (Rawlins) and that evening I will be meeting with St. Barnabas (Saratoga) to begin the LifeCycles congregation formation process. Thursday and Friday are administrative days and set for sermon writing. Saturday I am planning on meeting with St. Thomas preaching team, participate in the Memorial Service that is scheduled for 11 am and then I am off to Baggs for the Family Night. Sunday I will be in Encampment to preach and preside at St. James. It looks like I will have been in contact with all five churches of Carbon County! Have a great week.
